A Quote I have repeatedly seen on social media. I can relate to discovering our ability to heal our physical, emotional, & spiritual self. I meet many incredible humans along the way who supported the discovery of how amazing we are.
Again and again I’ve been witness to the amazing healing ability of our human bodies. The body’s intelligence is wise. We often do not understand the journey of wellness; and are not taught the importance of truly supporting ourselves, as the body finds its way into homeostasis(balance).
September 2018 was a tough month, well; I guess so was October/November. I woke up in the middle of the night in extreme pain. I felt bones shift; heard a popping sound. My femur bone was migrating away from the hip joint. This has happened before; twice. You may be wondering why or how? When the body is releasing trauma, some people experience physical symptoms, pains aches, or illness. For me it’s all of those plus some bonus experiences of shifting bones. I was angry at first, cause I was about to launch my yoga classes in the community. Once I sat with it all and went into a deep conversation with the heart self, I remembered how much I trust the process; and appreciate life’s teachings. Always coming back into the remembering of what I am underneath all of the story, misunderstandings and what I think I ‘know’. Which is one of the ways I support others in 1:1 sessions. Guiding you into life, how to allow life to flow through you, rising within you as your gift. To expand the capacity to what you think is possible as your lead into the remembering of what is underneath all the stories, memories and beliefs. Peeling back the layers through curiosity and celebration. An honoring of you.
I connected with my osteopath and yoga teacher for support. It was about two weeks before I could straighten my leg again or sit down on the coach like a person would regularly. Which was the body’s way of protecting itself, pulling in the hamstrings keeping the leg in place. Thank goodness right? As awkward as it was to hobble around, my body was working its magic.
It was challenging not to begin my day with a yoga practice. So I sat in meditation every morning. A few days later, the nudge echoed within; to lay on my mat propped with many pillows for comfort and visualize my morning yoga practice. I would flow with breath through each movement, within my minds eye. Taking as much time as I would in my regular practice.
Weeks went by and I was slowly able to sit on the mat for breathing exercises. Then began the rehabilitation of the muscles. I worked with a movement coach in the past and did all the exercises I learned from two years ago, to strengthen the hips. Thank you Anthony:) you rock! Your sessions empowered me to connect and strengthen and heal!
Just under two months and I started a very gentle yoga practice with physical movement of the body. I began to notice something very strange. Postures and movements that were out of my reach months before where unfolding before my eyes.
The mind began with interesting questions and story:
‘How it this possible? How did I gain strength and flexibility after two months of only visualizing my practice?’
Can the power of visualization build flexibility and muscle strength? In my case this seems to be so. What do we even know about the body anyway? Science seems to tell us all these things we call ‘facts’. Yet those facts are proven wrong all the time as science digs deeper. The more we discover the less we know.
This is amazing since it opens the door to possibilities! Imagine what is possible when you believe.
So here I am again, pushing the boundaries of what is possible with the body’s ability to heal. It’s now Jan 2019, and I can sit on my meditation cushion for over two hours again, dive into my full practice and have more strength than ever. Yoga classes will begin soon. Yeah!
If you are finding yourself in an opportunity to witness your body’s magic, go within, into stillness. Carve out time every day to cultivate peace and deep relaxation. Healing the body begins with the nervous system. Supporting your body by going into deep relaxation allows the nervous system to work its magic. I would suggest speaking to someone who understands the nervous system; if you want to learn more. While I was in these deep relaxed states I would also visualize healthy strong muscles, even placing my hands on the muscles gave the feeling of support.
And so the curiosity continues, within the lens of awe- wondrous heart and inspired soul…
